Haoabout creates cultural media and experiences for international audiences. Through cross-cultural exchange and first-hand encounters, we bring the people, practices and everyday life of a place into view.
Our work spans four film formats and cultural events, offering destinations, cultural organizations, and brands different ways to share culture through media and in-person experiences. The selected projects below show these approaches in practice.
Cultural Experience Shorts
A focused introduction to a cultural practice through taking part: preparing food, learning a craft or trying a tradition with the people who keep it alive. These short films give audiences an accessible starting point and help partners introduce a specific experience through social media.

Learning to whisk powdered tea and draw on its foam with teacher Yang Yang turns a cultural practice into a shared, first-hand encounter.
Local Culture Series
A series of short and medium-length films built around a place, combining hands-on experiences, conversations and visits. Each episode stands on its own while adding another perspective on local culture. The format suits partners with several stories to share across an ongoing series.

A short-video series from Bayannur, including encounters with local traditions and a journey to a Urad wedding. This series is presented separately from our feature documentary set in the same region.
Slow Travel Vlogs
Journey-led videos that bring viewers along for food, cultural activities and everyday discoveries. Personal observations and spontaneous encounters make a destination approachable, giving partners a way to introduce places through the experience of visiting them.

Travels in Jilin bring together Korean Chinese food, local markets, cultural experiences and the surprises of a family journey. Published videos include our first day in Yanji and a visit to the border at Tumen.
Experiential Travel & Culture Documentaries
Long-form films that bring cultural encounters into a connected story. Our hosts take part, ask questions and spend time with people along the way. This format gives destinations and cultural partners room for a sustained story about a place and the people who shape it.

An experiential travel and culture documentary set in Bayannur, Inner Mongolia. The first cut is complete; the film is still being finalised and has not been formally released.

Our cultural events bring people together through food, music and shared experiences, creating opportunities for cross-cultural exchange beyond the screen.
Selected event · Culture Night: Ningxia X
Ningxia X brought Ningxia food and music to The Local in Beijing on 17 April 2026. Ma Wenxiang performed traditional instruments alongside a fusion set, while the menu included Yu Zhenling’s handmade haozi noodles. Organised by Haoabout and its operating company, Beijing VM Culture Ltd. (北京惟明月文化有限公司), the evening grew out of our encounters in Zhongning.
